The Story

How Mindfully Malignant
Came Into Being

Hey, I’m Brenda Jean, and my story began with HER-2 Triple Positive Breast Cancer. And life suddenly became a chaos of chemo damage, chronic pain from Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), and endless hospital stays.

I survived ten surgeries, heart failure, and setbacks in life that I once thought were impossible. But through the mud came growth. I turned to both Western medicine and Eastern medicine, chemo saved my life, while meditation, breathwork, and holistic approaches carried me through the darkest nights.

All this while, I was resilient to make every moment of my journey count. I started an online journal that later became Mindfully Malignant, a place to share what I’ve learned. This space is not therapy. It’s physical therapy for your brain and a way to train your mind, reclaim strength, and find peace.

Some call my survival a cancer miracle. I call it mindset, resilience, and compassion in action.

I became both a caregiver and a patient at the same time. Along my journey, I also walked beside a dear friend who was facing cancer, and I knew the fear of possibly losing them. I have witnessed not only my own struggle but also the struggles of others who fought bravely, as well as the heartbreak of those who lost their battles. Because of this, I deeply understand what it feels like to be on both sides: the one fighting and the one caring, the one surviving and the one grieving. This perspective shapes the way I connect with others, allowing me to support and guide with genuine empathy, compassion, and strength.
